1. rotor communications: rotor player software interface design

Rotor Communications broke brilliant ground in the dot-com surge by inventing and building a revolutionary interactive television broadcast format. With television content integrated into their proprietary production tools, their Rotorcasts opened the door for TV viewers to interact live with show characters & producers, to lobby their opinions, drive the story line, or shop online for show-related merchandise.

In the year of their launch, one of the biggest challenges was getting show creators and TV studios on board. And since no one had seen anything like it, it was up to the art department — and Art Directors such as myself — to very quickly comp together storyboards of exactly how the Rotor Player would look with real content.

And while most of these were merely pitches, they did need to comply with very rigid software templates and rendering technologies, down to the pixel, and were all fully functional interfaces.
