2. final illustration

While there were elements of real beauty within these illustrations, I found the ultra-crisp Illustration style and push-in / pull-out motion graphics too stiff for my taste. Still, it was a thrill to see my drawings on a 70ft screen in front of a live audience. And working with Citoyen was a pleasure.

NOTE: Citoyen retained most of the final art, so what is shown below is not the final camera-ready work. You get the idea, though.

feature film title illustrations for rob reiner’s “alex & emma”

Motion graphics studio Citoyen contracted me to create illustrations they could animate into an opening title sequence. Their concept and art direction required me to build my work in resolution-independent vectors so they would be free to push straight into each drawing and fly right through it into the next shot. I created all the elements in Illustrator and Citoyen set them in motion.

3. colors swatches

Establishing a swatch palette of skin + clothing color chips, with embedded outlines, textures, and opacity, was essential to matching drawings between scenes.

4. patterns

Citoyen wanted to use patterns as the transition element between title animation scenes, pushing through them from one shot and pulling out into another.
