My son and I saw the trailers for Pixar’s Cars and flipped out. It was gonna be awesome. But with an impatient 4 year old, the 6-month wait for theatrical release was an eternity. And even if there had been toys on the shelves — did this dad really want to encourage the rampant merchandising that would surely be an intractable part of this generation’s movie-going experience? Wasn’t there some sculpting clay in a drawer somewhere?

And what about the Little Einsteins. Cool show with a groovy educational element. Did we have to jump in the car and drive across town to buy a plastic-wrapped toy with battery operated flashy lights? Modeling behavior was even cooler than modeling clay.
Do pumpkins deserve to be in a portfolio? Maybe if they’re rad enough ...
Can a carved pumpkin convey a critical message? Perhaps if it’s on a slowly spinning platter ...
Most wrapping paper doesn’t recycle. But brown paper bags do, and potatoes compost.
